RYSE closing to slow the spread of Coronavirus:
Flattening the curve for ALL our communities

RYSE has been monitoring the status and spread of COVID-19. We are monitoring the ever-changing information from the CDC, WHO, CDPH, and local agencies alongside continued inquiry with our members, families, and partners.

Over the last week, there has been an exponential increase in spread and confirmed cases of COVID-19. This will continue for the near future. Our response has shifted from containment to slowing the spread, to flattening the curve. The most prominent strategy we have right now to slow the spread is social distancing.

Given all this, we have come to what we feel is a necessary and difficult decision to close the center, starting Monday, March 16th. We have been in ongoing conversation and consultation with our community, and well as considerations of what it means to close AND what it would mean to stay open.

We appreciate your understanding and commitment to affirming that we are worth taking care of ourselves and each other, and that our worth is more than our work.

In prioritizing ALL our health and humanity, the following measures are in effect:

  • RYSE will be closed starting on Monday March 16th. We will announce when we will reopen for members.

  • RYSE staff will be working remotely during this time and adapting ways to be in deeper partnership and relationship with our members and community, at least for now, virtually.

  • We are coordinating emergency supports and mutual aid for our members, families, and staff. We will be sharing details of these efforts and how to connect and support by Monday on social media. For urgent issues, contact Kimberly Aceves-Iniguez, Executive Director, at kimberly@rysecenter.org or 510-206-5552 and/or Kanwarpal Dhaliwal, Associate Director, at kanwarpal@rysecenter.org or 510-579-1922.

We know that in times of crisis and pandemic, our communities face increased burdens of economic hardship, compounded distress, and too often stigma and blame. Pandemics reveal and increase inequity. Pandemics also reveal and insist on beloved community. Let’s build our sacred connections in times of social distancing. Let’s be beloved.
