Trauma and Healing Learning Series, Session 2

“Young people are in pain. What do they need? They need love. So be love.”
— Donté Clark, Former RYSE Staff and Richmond Poet Laureate

“Language is power, life and the instrument of culture, the instrument of domination and liberation.”
— Angela Carter

RYSE Center works to shift the conditions of inequity and dehumanization of young people in our community. Our aim is to transform and create systems that effectively respond to and meet their priorities, needs, and interests.  Towards this, and in response and resistance to the insidious systems harms that young people experience, we hold and cultivate a beloved community that meets young people where they are, supports them in where they want and need to go, stays brave and loving with them and on their behalf.

WHAT:  In this second session, RYSE Center will share our approach and practice of restorative and non-violent communication as a means of building beloved community.  We will share what led us to employ this approach with young people, staff, and partners, and consider the necessity and opportunities to create collective commitment, support, and accountability with this approach. The session will include time to run scenarios and situations relevant to y/our work.

WHEN: Thursday, November 16, 2017 from 10 AM - 2 PM

WHERE: RYSE Center, 205 41st Street, Richmond, CA 94805

WHO: The Learning Series is geared toward those in the public health, social services, community-based programs, education, public systems and agencies, philanthropy, research, and stakeholders serving Richmond and West Contra Costa. NOTE: Multiple staff from one agency or program are welcome, with a limit of 3. We are more than happy to arrange a time outside of the Series to come and present at your program if interested.

TICKETS: This event is FREE. RYSE Center appreciates any donations. Now in its 4th year, the Series' events continue to engage our communities in collective learning, shared commitment, and healing-centered practices to best serve our young people and families.
