Full of Cheer: A "Feed the Family" Gathering
On December 16th, 2017, RYSE Center celebrated the holiday season at Full of Cheer: A "Feed the Family" Gathering. Our communities' families gathered for delicious food and fun, Black Santa's Workshop, and Arts and Crafts. Sweet and Mellow Truck provided coffee and hot chocolate, and Vision to Learn conducted free eye exams for prescription glasses! We also partnered with Rich City Rides, Project What!, Richmond Promise, Bay Area Legal Aid, Bay Area Rescue Mission, and other community partners for a resource fair.

This month, our youth went on the YO!Cali Retreat, organized and led photography classes, and continued to explore what liberation means to them.

RYSE Gives Richmond Youth Safe Space And Hope
"The belief is that the life skills and lessons learned from RYSE will carry over as members transition into adulthood, and perhaps join the Center’s staff, like both [Dalia] Ramos-Mucino and [Gemikia] Henderson did.
“We want young people to see themselves running the organization, whether it’s in two years, 10 years, 20 years,” says [Kanwarpal] Dhaliwal (about a third of the current staff consists of former members). “And that will really feed into them taking ownership and building power to run the city.”
Adds Ramos-Mucino, “A lot of people don’t know how smart, talented, and special young people are in my community. They don’t know all the positive things they have to offer.” Read more here.
