Nyabingha Zianni McDowell – RYSE

Nya is the RYSE Center’s Studio Manager, and was the lead playwright and co-director of “Bag Ladies’ Butterfly Blues,” RYSE’s first multimedia production by Richmond youth. Before RAW Talent merged with RYSE to become its Performing Arts Program, Nya starred in RAW Talent’s first two plays, “Po’Boys Kitchen” and “Te’s Harmony.” She made a name for herself as an artist when she won first place in the regional Youth Speaks Teen Poetry Slam two years in a row. Nya has always been a leader at school, overseeing several extracurricular clubs, organizing events, and went to Jamaica last summer to study abroad. Nya always steals the show— whenever she performs she leaves jaws dropped and hearts moved in the wake of her powerful words.
